This is the gold standard for tanning leather. It is an old-world process that uses tannic acids naturally found in some plant species, by using the barks, branches, leaves and even some fruits, to treat leather. Vegetable tanned leather has a woody and earthy smell. Vegetable tanning takes a long time. It is also an expensive process. We've managed to make it affordable for you. PS: You can learn more about it here: Vegetable-Tanned leather - why we do it?
Full-grain leather comes from the most durable part of the hide of the calf (just under the hair). The reason it is so durable is the tight grain pattern in this part of the animal. For this reason, full-grain leather is the strongest leather and it lasts the longest. Over time, full-grain leather will look nicer and nicer and develop a patina. It also tends to handle moisture better than any other kind of leather.
We take pride in the fact that each of our product is made by hand in Europe. We stand behind the quality of the men and women who make our products. Meqnes warrants the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product. Our warranty does not cover damage caused by neglect, improper care, accident, or normal wear and tear. If your product falls apart due to a defect in materials or workmanship, we will repair or replace it, in a way we deem reasonable.
Most full-grain calfskin leather weekender bags of this size go for well over 1000 USD. High quality leather is not cheap. The vegetable tanning process is not cheap. Making things by hand is not cheap. But we feel all of this is important, and know that our customers do, too.
